o improve the reliability of electrical equipment with solid systems such as power cables, power transformers or electrical generators and motors, PD tests under operational conditions became important.

Althoug the conventional test equipment and most of the norms are based upon the measurement of the apparent charge, today's concepts are that the degree of danger of the fault is estimated by the dynamics of its development and by the energy that this fault releases into the insulation system. Moreover, it is extremely valuable to locate the PD source with certain precision. This article presents a diagnostic technique for estimating the degree of danger of the PD sources in the insulation system analyzing the dynamics of their development, as well as locating their position.
