High frequency characterization of medium voltage cables using Time Domain Reflectometry techniques

ime domain reflectometry (TDR) measurement techniques are used to determine the high frequency propagation characteristics of medium voltage cables. Different lengths, ratings and types of cables are measured.

The description of the test set-up, its calibration and the analysis of the measured data are given. The propagation characteristics are useful for cable diagnostic purposes as they give information about the state of the cable. These characteristics can be used, for instance, for localisation of insulation degradation in cables.
